The service portfolio of the Canary Health Service (SCS) now includes the areola micropigmentation service for women who have undergone breast reconstruction after breast cancer. This project, beginning its pilot phase on the island of Tenerife, aims to extend to all other Health Areas in the archipelago.
The director of the SCS, Adasat Goya, along with other directors and representatives from associations such as Ámate and Carrera por la vida, discussed the referral of breast cancer patients for areola micropigmentation or the reception of a custom adhesive nipple prosthesis.
This technique is applied to women who have completed their breast reconstruction or have a medical indication for micropigmentation. The SCS aims to provide an aesthetic, non-invasive, and personalized alternative after a mastectomy.
Through the pilot project in Tenerife, patients referred by Oncology or Gynecology are treated at a contracted center for areola reconstruction using micropigmentation, achieving a more realistic breast appearance.
Oncological micropigmentation allows for the recreation of the areola's appearance in color, shape, and texture after a mastectomy or reconstruction. Its benefits include the recovery of body image, a more natural appearance, and improved self-esteem and personal confidence.
It is a minimally invasive and safe technique, performed once reconstructive surgery is complete and the skin has adequately healed.
