The capital city, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, will be under lockdown on June 12 due to the visit of Pope León XIV, involving significant mobility restrictions.

The Cabildo of Tenerife is finalizing preparations for a special operation due to the arrival of Pope León XIV in Santa Cruz de Tenerife on June 12. From 9:00 AM that Friday, the city will be immersed in an operation that will include traffic closures and mobility restrictions in various areas due to security protocols associated with the Holy Father's visit.
The island institution recommends that citizens access the city center before 9:00 AM to avoid congestion and facilitate the operation. Emphasis is placed on the importance of planning travel and following official instructions throughout the day, which will feature a large security and logistical deployment.
The main traffic closures planned for the metropolitan area on the morning and early afternoon of June 12 were detailed by island authorities. The president of the Cabildo of Tenerife, Rosa Dávila; the vice-president, Lope Afonso; Bishop Eloy Santiago; and representatives from Titsa, Metrotenerife, Civil Protection, and the Firefighters Consortium explained the special plan designed for the day.
Closures are planned on the TF-4 at its access to Santa Cruz de Tenerife near the refinery and treatment plant from 3:00 AM. Between 9:00 AM and 9:30 AM, the TF-24 will be closed between Las Raíces and Padre Anchieta. Subsequently, from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM, dynamic closures will occur from Padre Anchieta to the capital in the direction of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The TF-13 will be closed at the Las Canteras roundabout between 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM.
Sporadic traffic closures in various areas of the metropolitan area are not ruled out after the large-scale Mass, which could affect the TF-5 towards La Laguna, between the capital and the airport, and could extend until 3:00 PM.
A total of 200 people will be involved in the operation, as highlighted by the president of the Cabildo, Rosa Dávila.
To facilitate travel, a special fare of 1 euro per trip has been activated for public transport users without Ten+ cards or resident passes, provided they indicate the trip is for the papal visit. TITSA will reinforce its services with 12,000 available seats between 6:00 AM and 8:00 AM, strengthening key lines from the north, south, and metropolitan area. The transport operation will include 40 drivers and special surveillance at the Santa Cruz Interchange.
Metrotenerife will reinforce Tram Line 1 with double trams and a frequency of 10 minutes, capable of transporting approximately 4,800 people per hour. Line 2 will operate normally.
The island's seven fire stations will have 50 personnel, along with managers and officers. The Cecopin will remain active, in collaboration with the CEMAN of the National Police and other security forces. The PEIN (Tenerife Territorial Emergency Plan) will be activated on pre-alert on June 11 and 12.
In health matters, the Red Cross will provide 8 ambulances and 18 health technicians. Coordination with Puertos del Estado will ensure refrigerated units to offer fresh water to attendees, a measure to prevent heat effects and improve care during the event.
