The infrastructure, located in the La Gañanía Industrial Park, has been installed by Sampol Canarias and is ready for activation when required by the electricity system operator. This provisional solution aims to strengthen the response to any supply contingencies.
The plant comprises eight generator sets and represents an investment close to 11 million euros. It has secured all necessary administrative authorizations and is currently undergoing testing and operational adjustments, coordinated with Red Eléctrica de España.
“"Rigorous steps continue to be taken to reinforce the security of the electricity supply in the Canary Islands. These plants are not theoretical or empty announcements; they are real infrastructures ready to act when the system needs them."
During its construction, the facility employed over a hundred people, accelerating its commissioning. This plant, along with the El Chorrillo facility, are the first two emergency infrastructures assigned to the installing company that are fully operational.
The Los Realejos plant is part of the extraordinary measures implemented following the declaration of an energy emergency in the Canary Islands. Its purpose is to bolster supply security in islands with a structural generation deficit, activating only during periods of need or risk to system stability, while definitive solutions for the renewal of the Canary Islands' generation fleet are advanced.
