This new project, driven by the ULL's Vice-Rectorate for Research and Transfer through its Scientific and Innovation Culture Unit (Cienci@ULL) and in collaboration with the Cabildo of Tenerife Bookstore, aims to foster scientific culture on the island.
Through open meetings and close dialogues with teaching and research staff, the program seeks to facilitate access to knowledge, promote citizen participation, and create a bridge between the scientific community and society.
The inaugural session will take place on Thursday, September 17, from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM, at the Cabildo of Tenerife Bookstore. The central theme will be volcanic risk in the Canary Islands and its prevention.
During the meeting, fundamental concepts for understanding volcanic risk, such as hazard, exposure, and vulnerability, will be introduced, and actions that can help reduce its effects in the Canary Islands will be analyzed.
The talk, titled “What should we do as citizens facing volcanic risk in the Canary Islands?”, will be given by Ramón Casillas Ruiz, Professor of Geological Sciences at the ULL and coordinator of the Geological and Volcanology research group in the Canary Islands. Casillas also represents the ULL on the Scientific Committee of PEVOLCA (Special Plan for Civil Protection and Emergency Response for Volcanic Risk in the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands).
The activity will be structured as a moderated outreach conversation, aimed at the general public, designed to encourage participation and address questions. With this initiative, the Conecta Cienci@ULL Lab aims to establish new spaces for scientific dissemination in Tenerife.
