The Tenerife Island Council has awarded four Gold Medals of the island in its plenary session held on October 2nd. These distinctions aim to recognize the trajectory, merits, and contribution to the Tinerfeño society of entities linked to culture, traditions, heritage, and the conservation of the territory.
Among the awarded entities are the Tenerife Mountaineering Group, the Guanche Collective of Candelaria and the Guanche Association of Güímar, the Royal Canary Academy of Fine Arts of San Miguel Arcángel, the Artistic Musical Group La Candelaria of Arafo, as well as animal protection entities on the island.
The president of the Island Council, Rosa Dávila, highlighted that these medals symbolize Tenerife's gratitude to those entities that have dedicated decades of work to the island, strengthening its identity and transmitting its essence to new generations.
The Royal Canary Academy of Fine Arts of San Miguel Arcángel receives this recognition for its outstanding contribution to the culture of Tenerife. Founded by Royal Decree of Isabel II on October 31, 1849, in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the Academy has offered regulated professional studies in applied arts, becoming the second oldest Public Law corporation in the Canary Islands.
With 175 years of service to the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands, the Academy, which also holds the Gold Medal of the City of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, has been fundamental in teaching disciplines such as architecture, sculpture, and painting.
Rosa Dávila emphasized that these distinctions reflect the history of Tenerife and the capacity of its society to preserve and transmit what identifies it, recognizing the collective commitment of generations of Tinerfeños.
