Ana Padrón, director of the ICI, emphasized the institution's commitment, which extends beyond preventing gender violence to making these realities visible. The ICI is providing financial support for the film by Mabel Lozano, a two-time Goya Award winner, which will be shot over two weeks in Tenerife and focuses on the trafficking of vulnerable women.
Padrón stated that "trafficking for sexual exploitation is an issue that challenges us as a society and requires us to commit and denounce unjust and illegal situations. We must support the path to freedom for every woman." She added, "We need to open our eyes and act."
The film addresses structural violence through the real-life story of sexual exploitation experienced by a young woman with a disability. Mabel Lozano, an activist against trafficking and the film's director, explained that cinema is a "great tool for social transformation" to raise awareness and denounce sexual exploitation, trafficking, and violence against women, reaching a younger audience to "foster critical thinking."
Lozano also pointed out that when discussing commercial sexual exploitation, the focus should be on the victims but also on "those who consume, those who exploit," emphasizing that "without consumption, without men consuming, without demand for paid sex, there is no prostitution, and therefore, no trafficking."
The main cast includes Michelle Jenner and Inés Rodríguez as protagonists, with appearances by Rosy de Palma, Luis Tosar, Javier Gutiérrez, Antonio de la Torre, and Xavi Said. The soundtrack is by Ara Malikian. After filming in Guadalajara and Madrid, the team concludes production in Tenerife.
This afternoon, at 8:00 PM, the short film of the same name, presented in 2025 and serving as the basis for the film, will be screened at the Espacio Price in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Director Ana Padrón and counselor Candelaria Delgado will be present. Tickets are free and can be reserved at reservaentradas.com.
