The La Orotava City Council, in collaboration with the University of La Laguna (ULL), is organizing two university extension courses focused on drones and Unreal Engine video game development, to be held in September and October.

The initiative aims to bring practical university training to citizens, both for those wishing to start in these fields and for those seeking to expand their knowledge in new technologies. The courses are part of the municipal program “Ayuntamientos 2026”.
The course “Drone Usage: Utilities, Applications, and Regulations (Introductory Course)” will take place on September 22nd, 23rd, and 24th, with ten hours of in-person instruction at the City Council's Plenary Hall. It will cover the fundamentals, components, applications, and current regulations for drone flight, including a practical handling experience.
The academic direction for this course is led by Santiago Torres Álvarez (ULL) and José Andrés Correa Cordobés (Drone Unit of the Arona Local Police). It is open to the general public interested in this technology, especially in the Canary Islands.
Meanwhile, the course “Video Game Programming with Unreal Engine” will be held on October 6th, 7th, and 8th at the El Bosquito-La Marzagana Recreational Park. With ten hours of practical training, it will introduce participants to the fundamentals of video game development using this professional engine, enabling them to prototype interactive experiences.
The academic direction for this second course is by Jesús Miguel Torres Jorge (ULL), who will also participate as a lecturer alongside Manuel Alejandro Bacallado López. The methodology will be eminently practical, with participants replicating the instructors' steps on their own computers.
Both courses, which offer 1 ECTS credit, have a reduced fee of 10 euros for residents of La Orotava and 20 euros for the general public. Registration for the drone course closes on September 16th, and for the video game course on September 30th, subject to availability.
