The Hospiten 8KM Orotava is gearing up for its upcoming edition, transforming La Orotava into a center for inclusive sports. This event, which transcends mere competition, has established itself as a social and solidarity gathering with national and international reach. Approximately a thousand athletes are expected to participate across the various modalities and scheduled activities.
The event's presentation was attended by the Mayor of La Orotava, Francisco Linares; the Island Councilor for Sports, Yolanda Moliné; the Councilor for Social Action, Inclusion, and Volunteering, Águeda Fumero; the Delegate Councilor for Sports, Carlos Díaz; the event promoter, Marcos Guardia, and representatives from Hospiten, the main sponsor.
The race, known for its night route through the historic streets of La Orotava, offers a unique experience. The program begins on July 24 with the VI Vertical Nocturna Maderas Evelio-Cristalería Drago. On July 25, the X Hospiten Mini 8KM Orotava for children will take place, followed by the II Carrera de los Abuel@s Tecnocasa (Grandparents' Race), and a new addition, the I Caminata Solidaria Sinpromi-Islenior (Solidarity Walk), reinforcing the commitment to inclusion.
The main day will conclude with the simultaneous start of the XIV Hospiten 8KM Orotava, already known as the “Zegama Urbana”, and the III 4KM Orotava Maderas Evelio. These races, featuring a challenging urban circuit, are complemented by the Retos Maderas Evelio (Challenges) for the most ambitious participants.
The “IncluyeT · Superación Permanente” (IncludeT · Permanent Overcoming) program, in collaboration with Fundación La Caixa, will run from July 20 to 23. It will feature talks and round tables with adapted athletes such as María Petit, Jesús Ángel García Bragado ("Chuso"), the Argentine marathon team Yo CorroporLua, Biel Ràfols, and Mario Raúl Martínez ("Mariete"), discussing resilience and the role of sports in promoting inclusion.
The Mini 8KM, Grandparents' Race, 4KM, and Solidarity Walk will have a charitable purpose, with proceeds going to the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC), Afanes Canarias, and Pichón Trail Project. Activities within the Incluye-T program will be free to access via a reverse ticketing system.
Mayor Francisco Linares highlighted the event's values: inclusion, overcoming challenges, effort, and solidarity, as well as its role in promoting local heritage. Island Councilor Yolanda Moliné emphasized sports' ability to unite people and promote healthy lifestyles, underscoring the Cabildo de Tenerife's support for active aging and initiatives that "break barriers".
Councilor Águeda Fumero stressed the importance of adapted sports and the values they foster, while Councilor for Sports, Carlos Díaz, noted the consolidation of the Circuito La Orotava 2026 as a sports project for everyone.
Registration for the children's and grandparents' races remains open on the organization's official platform, as La Orotava finalizes preparations for a week centered on sports, solidarity, and inclusion.
