The Villa de La Orotava has presented the LIV edition of the Trofeo Teide, one of the most traditional pre-season football tournaments in the Canary Islands. The men's and women's finals will take place at the Estadio Municipal Los Cuartos on August 1st and 15th, respectively.

The Villa de La Orotava hosted the official presentation of the LIV edition of the Trofeo Teide, a pre-season football competition with significant tradition in Spain and the oldest tournament in the Canary Islands. This year's edition will once again make the north of Tenerife the epicenter of regional football during the first weeks of August, with matches scheduled in Los Realejos, Icod de los Vinos, Puerto de la Cruz, and La Orotava.
The presentation was attended by the mayor Francisco Linares; the insular councilor for Sports, Yolanda Moliné; the town's Sports councilor, Carlos Díaz; and José María Díaz Baute, president of the Trofeo Teide Association. Also present were the Sports councilors from Icod de los Vinos and Los Realejos, Sonia Martín and Samuel Farrais, along with the presidents of the local sports clubs.
Since 2024, the Trofeo Teide Association, comprising the founding clubs —UD Orotava, UD Realejos, UD Icodense, and CD Puerto Cruz—, has organized the tournament in collaboration with the town councils of La Orotava, Los Realejos, Icod de los Vinos, and Puerto de la Cruz. The presidency rotates, and this year, the La Orotava Town Council is responsible for the overall coordination.
José María Díaz announced the launch of the official website trofeoteide.com, which provides all information and allows for online ticket purchases, in addition to the usual points of sale and box office.
The Estadio Municipal Los Cuartos will host the two finals. The Grand Final for the Men's LIV edition will take place on August 1st at 8:00 PM between CD Tenerife and Cádiz CF. On August 15th, at 6:15 PM, the Grand Final for the Women's tournament will be held between CD Tenerife and Atlético Madrid, reinforcing the tournament's commitment to equality and the promotion of women's football, whose final was first introduced in 2015.
The championship continues its firm commitment to an inclusive sports model, featuring competitions in youth, regional, women's, and veterans' categories. Preliminary matches will be distributed among the collaborating municipalities, strengthening the tournament's regional character. Semifinals and earlier finals will be played at the El Molino stadium (Icod de los Vinos), Los Príncipes (Los Realejos), Altos de Guajara, and El Peñón (Puerto de la Cruz), before culminating at Los Cuartos.
On July 23rd, at 8:00 PM, in the Salón Noble of the La Orotava Town Hall, former coach Cristóbal Marrero will deliver the opening speech, officially kicking off the fifty-fourth edition. During the event, gold insignia and other distinctions will be awarded to individuals who have significantly contributed to the history of the Trofeo Teide.
The mayor of La Orotava reviewed the tournament's history, highlighting its status as the fourth oldest in Spain and the dean in the Canary Islands. He emphasized the crucial role of municipal support from the Government of the Canary Islands and the Cabildo de Tenerife for its continuity and the promotion of sports values.
The Councilor for Sports of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Yolanda Moliné, stated that the Trofeo Teide is one of the most traditional sporting events in Tenerife and that the Cabildo continues to support it as part of the island's sporting heritage and for its economic dynamism. She expressed particular excitement for the high-caliber matches this edition and invited fans to enjoy the spectacle.
Councilor Carlos Díaz highlighted how the Trofeo Teide has brought together great teams over five decades, serving as a showcase for local football and projecting the region's name beyond its borders, calling it an essential event on the summer sports calendar.
