The Historical Heritage area of the Los Realejos City Council has allocated 5,000 euros for restoration projects at the Hermitage of San Vicente. The aid, channeled through the parish community of Realejo Bajo, will focus on intervening in the pulpit and the lower part of the altarpiece's frontispiece, elements that require urgent action.
This subsidy is part of the annual municipal call for Historical Heritage for religious heritage. The mayor, Adolfo González, and the Councilor for Historical Heritage, Isabel Socorro, recently visited the hermitage. They were received by the new parish priest of Realejo Bajo, David Rodríguez, and the church warden, Hilario Méndez García.
Adolfo González recalled that last year's subsidies were allocated to the restoration of the processional floats of Nuestra Señora de Los Remedios in Realejo Alto and the exterior painting of the Sanctuary of Nuestra Señora del Carmen.
For her part, Councilor Isabel Socorro announced that for 2026, in addition to this aid, municipal subsidies will be provided for restoration projects at the Parish of Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe in Toscal Longuera and the Parish of Nuestra Señora de los Dolores in Palo Blanco.
According to historians, the Hermitage of San Vicente underwent a renovation process in the second half of the 18th century. One of these interventions involved the construction and painting of the pulpit, attributed to Cristóbal Afonso, featuring decoration on flat panels that requires restoration. The altarpiece's frontispiece, which does not match the rest of the altarpiece and is attributed to Fray Gerardo de Abreu, has a decoration imitating fabric and raised trim. The proposed action aims to restore this frontispiece and recover its original position within the integral composition of the altarpiece.
