After more than an hour attempting to carry out disembarkation maneuvers at sea, the Maritime Captaincy recommended the docking of the 'MV Hondius'. This decision was made to complete the repatriation of passengers who need to fly to the Netherlands.
The measure became necessary due to the intense wind blowing in the port of Granadilla, coinciding with the start of maritime evacuation operations. The strong gusts caused the vessel to turn, frustrating attempts to keep it stable.
“"The only window of opportunity for evacuation and transfer to planes would be from Sunday dawn until weather conditions changed on Monday, as optimal conditions would not return until the end of May."
The Government of Canarias had already warned last Friday that the evacuation operation for 'Hondius' passengers needed to be swift, anticipating a change in weather conditions midway through Monday, which would complicate disembarkation, as ultimately happened.
The ship's docking will expedite the disembarkation process, which was being delayed by climatic conditions, and will facilitate the cruise's departure to the Netherlands.
