Tenerife's top wrestler, Eusebio Ledesma, has been honored with the 2026 Canary Sports Award for Best Individual Trajectory, sharing the accolade ex aequo with footballers Pedri González and Yéremy Pino.

Eusebio Ledesma, leader of the Chimbesque Wrestling Club, has been distinguished with the 2026 Canary Sports Award for Best Individual Trajectory. This award recognizes an extraordinary season in which Ledesma led his team to win the Canary Islands Championship of First Category, in addition to the insular titles of League, Cup, and Super Cup. The wrestler, who suffered only one defeat throughout the campaign, solidifies his position as a benchmark in Canarian wrestling.
The award is shared ex aequo with the joint candidacy of Pedri González and Yéremy Pino, world champions with the Spanish national football team. This marks the first time a wrestler has received the Best Individual Trajectory award, decided by a jury of 32 sports journalists from across the archipelago. The award, promoted by the Canary Islands Government's Ministry of Education, Vocational Training, Physical Activity and Sports, also highlights Canarian wrestling as a discipline deeply rooted in the islands' identity.
The 2025/26 season has been one of the most brilliant in Eusebio Ledesma's career, who trained in Valle Guerra. Under his leadership, Chimbesque retained the DISA Government of the Canary Islands First Category Tournament title and completed a clean sweep of insular titles. His individual performance, with only one loss, was decisive for the team.
Ledesma's career includes six Canary Islands First Category Championships and two regional youth titles, along with a notable history in island team competitions. He also won the first International Canarian Wrestling Tournament in 2017 and the International Korean Wrestling Championship Open Ssireum Festival.
The distinction for Ledesma underscores the role of traditional and indigenous sports in the Canary Islands. The jury's choice places a representative of Canarian wrestling on the same level as elite footballers. The Canary Sports Awards also feature specific categories for traditional sports.
Eusebio Ledesma will receive the 2026 Canary Sports Award on November 13th, during the third edition of the gala to be held in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, coinciding with ExpoDeca, the Canary Islands Physical Activity and Sports Fair (November 12th-15th).
