A technical visit to several relevant sites has served to evaluate the state of conservation and lay the groundwork for a future agreement. The tour was attended by the Director General of Culture and Cultural Heritage, Miguel Ángel Clavijo, Mayor José Domingo Regalado, Councilor Fredi Oramas, members of the Platform for the Defense of Heritage of Granadilla de Abona ‘DefensAbona’, and technical staff.
The Natural Monument Montaña Ifara and Los Riscos, the Casona, and the old Post Office House in Charco del Pino were visited. At Montaña Ifara, its value as a protected space with volcanic cones and natural richness was highlighted, with joint preservation actions being studied. Miguel Ángel Clavijo noted that this meeting marks the beginning of joint work, emphasizing the exceptional heritage of Granadilla de Abona and its set of Assets of Cultural Interest (BIC).
At the Casona and the old Post Office House in Charco del Pino, as well as at the Museum of History of Granadilla de Abona, actions for their rehabilitation and use as spaces linked to the municipality's history and identity were analyzed. Mayor José Domingo Regalado described the collaboration as an opportunity to recover historical spaces and bring them closer to the citizens.
The future agreement between the Canary Islands Government and the Granadilla de Abona City Council will promote projects for the protection, recovery, and conservation of heritage assets. Councilor Fredi Oramas stressed that the visit reinforces the council's initiatives and opens new avenues for collaboration.
The council also recognized the work of the ‘DefensAbona’ Platform in researching, disseminating, and defending the municipal heritage, fostering its knowledge and conservation among citizens.
Both administrations will work in coordination to rehabilitate these sites, enhance their richness, and preserve the collective memory of Granadilla de Abona for present and future generations.
