The special operation, managed by the public company Sermugran, aims to eliminate uncontrolled deposits of mattresses, furniture, appliances, and other bulky waste accumulating in various areas of San Isidro. This initiative seeks not only to clean up spaces but also to enhance citizen awareness regarding a practice that persists despite the availability of a free municipal service for domestic item removal.
Marcos Antonio Rodríguez, Councilor for Works and Services and President of Sermugran, emphasized the need for responsible use of the collection service. "We cannot normalize images of mattresses, sofas, furniture, or appliances abandoned next to containers any day of the week," he stated. He added that the special effort in San Isidro this week aims to address all accumulation points, but stressed that "cleaning a spot today only for it to be the same tomorrow cannot be the solution." Keeping the municipality clean requires the work of municipal services, but also civic-mindedness and citizen collaboration.
Sermugran operates with an established schedule for the collection of domestic items. In San Isidro, the designated day is Monday, and items should be placed out for collection from 7:00 PM onwards, neatly beside a container point and without obstructing pedestrian or vehicle traffic. The service is intended for household objects that, due to their size or characteristics, cannot fit into conventional bins, such as furniture, armchairs, sofas, chairs, mattresses, bed bases, washing machines, refrigerators, and televisions.
Residents can report and request the collection of their belongings through the service provided by Sermugran or by calling the municipal number 010, thereby avoiding uncontrolled dumping on public streets.
The City Council reminds the public that the abandonment or incorrect disposal of waste in public areas constitutes a sanctionable offense. Municipal regulations impose fines ranging from 750 to 3,000 euros, depending on the severity of the infraction. Individuals identified depositing items irregularly, outside the established days and conditions, or abandoning them in unauthorized spaces, may face disciplinary proceedings.
Marcos Antonio Rodríguez insisted that the primary goal is not to penalize but to eliminate these behaviors. "Abandoning a mattress, a sofa, or any other waste on the street cannot be free when there is a municipal service to do it correctly," he noted. He made a call for responsibility, reminding citizens that a free service is available and requesting their cooperation to achieve a cleaner San Isidro, as abandoning belongings harms fellow residents and damages the municipality's image.
