The decision, authorized by the Government Council, will allow the resumption of an expansion project that had been halted in the previous legislature. The facilities, which are over thirty years old, will undergo a comprehensive renovation to be carried out in three phases, starting with the completion of the building currently in its structural stage.
The expansion project originally began in 2019, with an execution period of 700 days and an initial budget of 2,885,636.45 euros (excluding IGIC). However, the works were first halted due to the COVID-19 health crisis and later by execution difficulties, which led to the termination of the contract and the need to draft a new project that included the renovation of the existing facilities.
With this investment, the health center will increase its total area from 2,739.70 square meters to 3,003.69 square meters. The intervention will affect all three levels of the building, creating new spaces for access, lobby, patient care, waiting rooms, observation and pediatric consultations, a breastfeeding area, Family and Community Medicine consultations and waiting room, a dental consultation, and the Emergency area, which will include a waiting room, CPR room, control, and emergency access.
Additionally, new areas will be set up for storage, terrace access, and technical zones for generator sets, electrical panels, and restrooms. The Tacoronte Health Center provides Primary Care services to the Tacoronte-El Sauzal Basic Health Zone, serving 32,242 users with Individual Health Cards (TSI). Of these, 19,683 are directly assigned to the Tacoronte center, while the rest are attended at the clinics in El Sauzal, Ravelo, Agua García, and San Juan Perales.
Currently, the facilities offer services in family medicine, nursing, pediatrics, physiotherapy, ambulatory retinography, clinical ultrasound, spirometry, social work, midwifery, liaison nursing, and oral health unit.
