After a weekend with the road fully open, the Guiniguada viaduct in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria has resumed traffic closures, this time in the southbound direction. The works, carried out by the company Lopesan under the supervision of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, will continue until next August 23.
The insular counselor for Public Works, Augusto Hidalgo, has requested patience from citizens regarding the inconveniences caused by these works, deeming them essential to guarantee the safety of the infrastructure, which was in danger of collapse.
The Julio Luengo tunnel is expected to bear the brunt of traffic pressure, receiving vehicles diverted from the GC-2 and other routes. To alleviate congestion, electronic traffic light control systems will be activated, and mobility agents will be deployed in the most problematic areas.
The established diversions include routes from Avenida Pintor Felo Monzón towards Avenida Juan Carlos Primero and the Julio Luengo tunnels, as well as from the La Ballena tunnels (GC-23) towards Julio Luengo, the Avenida Marítima, and the GC-1.
The Cabildo is confident in completing the works ahead of schedule, as was the case with the northbound closure, whose tasks were finished in half the initially estimated time.
