Young people participating in outdoor scientific and environmental activities in the Canary Islands.
More than 40 young people aged 12 to 16 have participated in the new edition of the Scientific-Environmental Activities in Santa Úrsula, a municipal initiative to spark interest in science and sustainability.
For five weeks, the 'Sumamente Verde' program from the Environmental Department of the Santa Úrsula City Council offered participants a practical and dynamic learning experience. The program included workshops, experiments, gamification activities, robotics focused on renewable energy, environmental education, and outdoor excursions.
The topics covered ranged from environmental gamification, the science of nature, flora and sustainability, to the wildlife of the Canary Islands and marine fauna, with a special focus on cetaceans. These activities were complemented by educational visits to places such as the Museum of Science and the Cosmos, the Icarus Project, an excursion to La Tahonilla, and a whale watching day on the southern coast of Tenerife.

"Environmental education is an investment in the future. Through initiatives like this, we offer our young people enriching experiences that foster knowledge, curiosity, and commitment to protecting our natural environment. We want the new generations to be protagonists in building an increasingly sustainable municipality."

"From the 'Sumamente Verde' project, we wanted young people to experience the environment firsthand, combining science, nature, and fun. The activities developed during July have allowed them to discover the natural richness of our municipality and the island, sparking interest in conservation and respect for the environment through workshops and educational outings. Our goal is for each participant to become an ambassador for environmental care and understand that small actions can generate big changes."
Through this initiative, the Santa Úrsula City Council reinforces the 'Sumamente Verde' project as a key tool for youth environmental education, promoting active learning and ecological awareness for a more sustainable municipality committed to protecting its environment.
