The Tacoronte Historical Novel Festival, scheduled from November 5th to 15th, solidifies its cultural initiative focused on historical narrative. Tacoronte's mayor and head of the Culture Department, Sandra Izquierdo, emphasized the festival's maturity and the quality of its program, which this year centers on Canarian history, identity, and culture, with support from the Tenerife Island Council.
The festival's director, editor Laura Rodríguez, highlighted the significant achievement of the festival's continuity and noted that the emphasis on women is reflected in the poster, featuring a central female figure advocating for women's roles in history and literature. Island Minister of Culture, José Carlos Acha, reaffirmed the Tenerife Island Council's support for this cultural project.
María del Mar Rodríguez Pérez's narrative work explores historical episodes of the islands through women's experiences, emigration, and family memory. Her trilogy Relatos de unas islas desamparadas spans over a century of Canarian history, depicting the archipelago's social and political transformations and the resilience of its women.
The festival will feature 42 activities, including 26 literary presentations, conferences, film screenings, theater performances, workshops, and gastronomic events. A total of 27 writers will participate, with 20 hailing from the Canary Islands, such as José Zoilo, Jorge Laguna, José Farrujia de la Rosa, Jesús Barranco, and Sandra Segura, alongside nationally recognized authors like Juan Francisco Ferrándiz and Jordi Sierra i Fabra.
The V Historical Research Conference, led by Antonio Marrero and Tamara Toledo from the University of La Laguna, will focus on the municipality's heritage and the language of images. Cinema will be featured through film forums and a short film festival.
Screenings will include films such as Mararía and Grand Canary, alongside theatrical productions like La inmortalidad by Antonio Tabares and La tuerta, an adaptation of María del Mar Rodríguez's novel. The program also includes exhibitions and workshops for children and adults.
