The mayor, Sandra Izquierdo; the first deputy mayor, Noemí García; and the Councilor for Seniors, Vanessa Luis-Ravelo, welcomed María Dolores González Sánchez, affectionately known as «Lolita», at the Plenary Hall. She celebrated her 99th birthday on April 7th. «Lolita» is recognized for her excellent health, enviable vitality, and for being one of the most beloved and admired figures in Tacoronte.
Considered a woman ahead of her time, empowered, and kind, «Lolita» was a prominent figure in the commercial activity of La Estación. For several decades, she supported many families through her businesses, with a main counter at the former Municipal Market of Tacoronte.
Born in 1927, she began her professional career at 23 in a hardware store. A decade later, she ventured solo, opening her own grocery stall in the market, becoming a pillar of local commerce. She later expanded her business with a self-service store near the current Tourism Office and concluded her professional journey with «Novedades Lolita», a haberdashery opposite the Capitol Auditorium offering a wide range of products.
«Lolita», a resident of Santa Catalina, retired at 78 after more than half a century of professional dedication, regretting today that she did not continue working for a few more years. Local leaders praised her liveliness and closeness, thanking her for her time to receive a «deserved and more than justified» recognition.
