This financial contribution will help promote a new edition of a project that is consolidating itself as a cultural highlight for the municipality, using literature and historical dissemination to deepen the understanding of the past, foster reflection, and showcase the cultural heritage of the Canary Islands.
The Culture Department of the Tacoronte City Council, led by mayor Sandra Izquierdo, is organizing this event. For its sixth edition, the festival will focus on recognizing the role played by women in the history of the Archipelago.
The initiative stems from the pride in Tacoronte's city status, a royal title granted by Alfonso XIII, aiming to reinforce the municipality's historical identity and its commitment to culture as a space for knowledge and social transformation.
Mayor Sandra Izquierdo emphasized the importance of the Cabildo of Tenerife's support for the festival's development. "Receiving this grant is a significant boost for Tacoronte and for a festival that allows us to reclaim our history, strengthen our identity as a city, and bring culture closer to our citizens," she stated. She added that it is an opportunity to "continue placing our municipality on the cultural map of the Canary Islands, through a proposal that combines literature, research, and historical dissemination."
Izquierdo also highlighted the relevance of the chosen theme: "We have a historical debt to the many women who, from different fields and eras, contributed to building Canarian society and whose presence has not always received the recognition it deserves. We want this festival to help recover their stories, give them visibility, and demonstrate that their experiences are an extraordinary source of knowledge, inspiration, and literary creation."
The VI Historical Novel Festival City of Tacoronte is launched with a commitment to highlighting the fundamental role of women in the social, economic, and cultural evolution of the islands. Through round tables, conferences, and a multidisciplinary program, the event will explore characters, events, and historical episodes from new perspectives.
The gathering also aims to strengthen the connection between historical research and literary creation, showcasing the potential of Canarian women's history as a source for contemporary historical novels. The festival seeks to position Tacoronte and the entire Archipelago as territories of interest for authors and researchers.
The mayor noted that "our islands hold stories of women that deserve to be known, researched, and told. Recovering them not only means doing justice to their memory but also offering new perspectives on our past and opening paths for literature to continue finding a territory full of possibilities in the Canary Islands."
The detailed program and announcement poster will be officially presented on Thursday, October 29, at the Municipal Auditorium Capitol. All details of the agenda, which will run from November 5 to 15, will be provided during this presentation.
