The Tacoronte City Council has updated its Tacoronte REDUCE strategy to promote smarter and more participatory waste management, introducing bonuses and tools to raise citizen awareness.

The Tacoronte City Council, through its Waste Department, continues to promote Tacoronte REDUCE, a local strategy designed to inform, raise awareness, and involve citizens in the correct management of waste. The initiative aims to move towards a more sustainable and efficient municipality, adapting the municipal model to the new waste ordinance with the goal of transforming daily habits.
The Councilor for Waste, Eduardo Dávila, highlights the importance of this strategy as a fundamental tool for bringing waste management closer to the daily reality of residents. "Tacoronte REDUCE is much more than an information campaign. It is a commitment to change our way of understanding waste, because what we correctly separate ceases to be mere garbage and can become a usable resource," states Dávila.
The strategy focuses on prevention and waste separation at the source. The separate collection of organic matter, using the brown bin, is a priority. Individuals who request their card receive a free kit for domestic organic waste collection, including a kitchen bin and compostable bags.
Among the main novelties of the modified fiscal ordinance are reinforced environmental bonuses. Bonuses are contemplated for the use of the brown bin (25% for homes, 35% for restaurants), for composting (30%-35%), for reducing food waste (25%-35%), for using the mobile collection point (up to 5% annually), and social support measures (95% for families in need, 50% for residents meeting income requirements).
Additionally, payment facilities are offered, such as a 5% bonus for direct debit and installment options for bills. The City Council has also launched a €250,000 aid line for restaurant and food establishments to finance actions related to organic matter separation and food waste reduction.
The City Council reminds residents that proper waste management begins at home and encourages citizens to join Tacoronte REDUCE, request their card and organic kit, and learn about available bonuses. All information is available on the website Tacoronte Más Sostenible.
