Retired magistrate Arcadio Díaz Tejera has been appointed the new president of the Democracia Canarias XXI association, succeeding the former mayor of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Emilio Mayoral, in a ceremony held on April 14, 2026.

The assembly of Democracia Canarias XXI elected Díaz Tejera to lead the organization, which was previously under the direction of Emilio Mayoral. The new executive team includes young talents such as vice-president Noelia Gil Santiago and board members like Adrián Santana, Tuto Parrilla, Inés Jiménez, Jesús Morera, Javier Santana Pordomingo, and Néstor Hernández, who is serving another term. Additionally, Maribel Monzón remains as secretary, and Daniel Besteiro Rodríguez joins as treasurer.
In its short history, the association has organized various events that have attracted large audiences, in line with its founding principles. One of the most recent gatherings featured TVE journalist Xavier Fortes, who conversed with the mayor of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Carolina Darias.

To defend social and legal democracy in all its aspects: political, social, economic, and environmental. And the principles that sustain it: values of the Enlightenment and human rights, and democracy understood as freedom, equality, justice, and solidarity; to work for inclusion and fight against discrimination in all its forms, to contribute to the consolidation of the European Union inspired by the aspirations of peace, democracy, economic progress, social justice, and care for nature, and to promote the protection and defense of the environment against the challenges of climate change, seeking its consideration as a right, both subjective and objective.

During the assembly, the outgoing team's management and the budget for 2026 were unanimously approved. Furthermore, an increase in the annual membership fee for associates was agreed upon, rising from 10 to 20 euros.
