A Guaguas Municipales driver is set to face trial at the Provincial Court of Las Palmas this Wednesday, accused of reckless driving and causing serious injuries after an incident involving a motorcyclist in the capital of Gran Canaria.

The Provincial Court of Las Palmas will host the trial this Wednesday, April 15, against a Guaguas Municipales driver, identified as A.J.M.R., for an alleged episode of violent driving. The incident, which occurred on Avenida de Escaleritas, resulted in a motorcyclist being seriously injured after reportedly being rammed and knocked down by the bus.
According to the indictment from the Public Prosecutor's Office, the incident began with an argument between the bus driver and the motorcyclist. Subsequently, the accused allegedly adopted an "aggressive driving behavior," performing "several approach maneuvers and even ramming the motorcycle," creating an "evident risk" for the victim, other road users, and public transport passengers.

The driver had an argument with a motorcyclist while both were driving.

The public prosecution details that the driver then made a "sudden left turn," intentionally invading the opposite lane to intercept the motorcyclist. This action caused the victim to lose control and become trapped under the bus for a few moments, suffering "injuries of special consideration," including multiple rib fractures, pulmonary contusion, scapula fracture, and mild hydropneumothorax.
In addition to physical injuries, the motorcyclist has "permanent sequelae" such as aggravated shoulder osteoarthritis and aesthetic damage. The material damages to the motorcycle have been expertly valued at approximately 3,000 euros. The Public Prosecutor's Office is seeking a total of seven years in prison for the accused for reckless driving and assault with a dangerous instrument, as well as a five-year disqualification from driving motor vehicles.
In terms of civil liability, compensation of approximately 15,000 euros is being claimed for the injuries, sequelae, and material damages. Both the vehicle's owner, Guaguas Municipales, and the insurance company would be directly responsible for this amount.
