The property, popularly known as the nuns' orphanage or Las Oblatas, has been abandoned for over a decade and has suffered vandalism, leading to its access points being boarded up. The transfer, currently undergoing public information, will be finalized in September.
Hogar Las Dunas features a built area of 4,195.75 square meters on a 11,539 square meter plot on Calle Santo Tomás. After being returned to the Cabildo by the Fundación Canaria Bravo Murillo, which failed to use it as agreed, it was deemed unsuitable for a dependent care center due to its poor condition.
The transfer is granted for an initial period of twenty years, extendable by another ten, given the significant rehabilitation works required, estimated at over seven million euros. The Foundation submitted a detailed report in May outlining the planned actions, budget, and timeline.
Students from the Construction Labor Foundation's training courses will carry out the renovation work, providing them with practical experience. The building will be used for training, innovation, professional qualification, and occupational safety and health prevention activities within the construction sector.
