The event, organized by Club LA PROVINCIA and part of the Gen Match initiative by the Government of Canarias, took place this Thursday. Its main objective was to build bridges between different age groups, exploring how the way of telling the world has changed and, consequently, how it is understood.
The discussion panel featured prominent figures such as Lolina Pérez, journalist and former press chief for the Government of Canarias; Antonio Cacereño, journalist and former director of LA PROVINCIA; Elena Chedas, journalist and TVC reporter; and Adolfo Rodríguez, journalist and online content creator for LA PROVINCIA. The session was moderated by Jezabel Artiles, corporate communicator.
During the opening, Francisco Candil, Deputy Minister of Social Welfare for the Government of Canarias, explained that the purpose of this space is to foster shared reflection among different generations. He highlighted that the colloquium aims to provoke a useful conversation about the evolution of information, the construction of public opinion, and the role of new formats in this transformation.
“"In recent years, a disconnection marked by less empathy, fewer relationships, and fewer meeting points has become more pronounced."
Candil emphasized the importance of creating more intergenerational dialogue spaces, linking this divide to broader social debates such as housing, poverty, and coexistence models. He stated that an intergenerational perspective must be integrated into public policies, and that programs like Gen Match precisely seek to open these conversations among people from different contexts and ages who share common concerns.
