The Doctor Negrín University Hospital in Gran Canaria is solidifying its position as a national reference center for specialized Proctology training, hosting resident doctors from various Spanish hospitals.

The hospital's Coloproctology Unit has enhanced its national training role by conducting an advanced Proctology course. This initiative, promoted by the Spanish Association of Surgeons, brought together seven resident physicians from institutions such as the Germans Trias i Pujol University Hospital in Badalona and the University Hospital of Salamanca.
Over 30 hours, participants gained precise criteria for diagnosing and treating benign anal conditions. The program included theoretical sessions, live surgical interventions, specialized examinations, and imaging tests like anorectal and transperineal ultrasound.

The Coloproctology Unit at Doctor Negrín has established itself as a reference area in the Canary Islands for managing both benign and malignant diseases of the colon, rectum, and anal canal.

This unit is the sole accredited Advanced Coloproctology Unit in the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands by the Spanish Association of Coloproctology (AECP) since 2017, a recognition that underscores its care and teaching excellence, notably a low rate of postoperative infections.
The unit's activity is reflected in its figures: over 500 surgical interventions in the past year, with a focus on treating colorectal cancer. They also attend to patients with inflammatory bowel diseases, pelvic floor disorders, fecal incontinence, hemorrhoids, anal fissures, and fistulas.
Through specialized clinics and the use of cutting-edge diagnostic and therapeutic techniques, including robotic surgery and minimally invasive procedures, the hospital aims to improve patient recovery and quality of life. The Canary Islands Government's Department of Health highlights the Doctor Negrín hospital's commitment to innovation and continuous training.
