The Las Palmas de Gran Canaria 2027 Carnival, themed 'Music', introduces significant programming changes, running from January 22 to February 28.

The organization of the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria 2027 Carnival has unveiled a program with several key novelties. This year's event, themed 'Music', will take place from January 22 to February 28. A major alteration involves separating the Grand Parade and the Burial of the Sardine, which will now occur on consecutive weekends to "balance the volume and intensity of the events," according to the area's representative.
Another notable change is the relocation of the Queen's Gala to Monday, February 8, the eve of the Carnival Tuesday holiday. This adjustment aims to leverage prime time and kick off the street carnival. The Grand Dame Gala is also rescheduled, moving from Sunday to Friday, to give greater prominence to seniors on a day with higher viewership.
The carnival's opening will focus on grassroots groups and children's events. Friday, January 22, will mark the start with the Announcing Parade and the opening speech. The first weekend will host choreographic and children's murga contests, alongside the return of the children's comparsa competition, which has seen increased participation.
The week of January 25 to 31 will be dedicated to carnival groups, featuring murga preliminaries and the final on Saturday, January 30. The comparsa competition will take place on Friday, with more participants than in previous years. The week will conclude with the Children's Throne Gala on Sunday.
The third week of the program, starting February 5, will include the Grand Dame Gala on Friday and the adult costume contest on Saturday. Sunday, February 7, will be dedicated to pets with the traditional Canine Carnival. From February 8 onwards, the intensity will rise with the Queen's Gala.
Two consecutive Fridays will be reserved for drag events, including the Drag Pre-selection on February 12 and the selection of finalists on February 19. Saturday, February 20, will feature the Grand Parade, which will start at a relaxed pace to allow the carnival night to commence smoothly. Sunday, February 21, will host the Senior Carnival.
The final week, from February 22 to 28, will include the Night of Transformists and Divas for the Crown, events aimed at showcasing both veteran and new generations. The Integration Gala is scheduled for Wednesday, February 24, followed by concerts on February 26 and 27. The closing event on Sunday, February 28, will feature the 'Running Widows' competition and the Burial of the Sardine, the same day the 2028 theme will be revealed.
Carnival officials highlighted the significant participation of Canarian talent, exceeding 80%, and the commitment to a successful model combining local and international artists. A 'positive buzz' was noted regarding event expenses, reflecting the positive reception of recent years. The Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Carnival has received the Eventsost certification for its sustainability strategy.
