The Port Authority of Las Palmas has initiated a project to renovate and condition the access to the fixed pier of Santa Catalina Sur, within the Port of Las Palmas. The objective is to enhance the first impression for tourists arriving on the island via cruises.
The main action involves replacing the existing provisional fencing, composed of plastic cabinets and various types of enclosures, with a more orderly, secure, and marine-environment-resistant system. The work will not alter the pier's use or surface area, focusing exclusively on the access and associated technical facilities.
The central element will be a marine-grade aluminum technical unit designed to integrate and protect current installation registers, featuring lockable doors for maintenance access. Above this unit, a comb-type enclosure approximately 2.50 meters high will be installed, including three-dimensional letters spelling ‘Welcome’, also made of marine aluminum and incorporating artificial vegetation. A two-leaf folding door for private access and vehicle traffic, measuring eight meters wide and 2.20 meters high, will also be added.
Furthermore, approximately 13 meters of existing fencing will be replaced with the standardized model that the Port Authority has implemented in other renovated areas. The works will encompass demolitions, removal of current elements, restoration of stone paving, construction of new reinforced concrete foundations, assembly of metal components, and waste management.
The base tender budget amounts to 65,576.59 euros. The largest portion will be allocated to aluminum carpentry and structures (35,372 euros), followed by foundations (5,200 euros) and demolitions (3,672 euros).
The execution period set for the project is three months, commencing from the signing of the site survey verification report. During this time, assembly, quality controls, finishing touches, and final cleaning must be completed, ensuring minimal interference with the port's ordinary activities. The contract will be awarded through an open procedure, with the lowest price as the sole award criterion.
