The vessel Happy Dynamic docked at the Port of Las Palmas on Thursday night, carrying the initial four of eight Ruber Tyred Gantry (RTG) cranes. These tire-mounted machines represent a 20 million euro investment by Opcsa to enhance the capacity of its container terminal.

Over the coming days, port workers and the ship's crew will undertake the intricate operation of unloading these cranes, each weighing approximately 150 tons. This precise maneuver will utilize the Happy Dynamic's two NMF cranes, capable of lifting 400 tons, along with a third support crane with a 120-ton capacity.

The initial phase of unloading involves leveling the ship's height with the dock, typically achieved through ballasting. Subsequently, the cranes will be detached from their deck anchorages and positioned for hoisting and placement on the León y Castillo Pier.

These new hybrid cranes are expected to deliver fuel savings of up to 40%, which will not only reduce Opcsa's operational costs but also lead to a significant decrease in polluting emissions. They are slated to become operational by early summer, following the arrival of the remaining four units in May at La Luz.
