Fisherman dies after falling into the sea in Arucas

The body was located about 400 meters from the coast and rescued by air, but could not be saved.

A fisherman died this Friday in Arucas, Gran Canaria, after falling into the sea in a coastal area of difficult access, according to information from the Canary Islands Government Security and Emergency Coordination Center.

The incident occurred on Friday morning on the coast of Arucas, near Punta del Caletón. The alert was activated at 8:47 AM, mobilizing the Canary Emergency Service (SUC), the Gran Canaria Emergency Consortium, Maritime Rescue, the Civil Guard, and the Local Police of Arucas.
Firefighters managed to reach the injured person, who was about 400 meters from the coast. Subsequently, a Maritime Rescue helicopter carried out the rescue to evacuate the individual to the helipad of the Gran Canaria Doctor Negrín University Hospital.
Despite the efforts, the victim's death had to be certified at the healthcare facility.
