The incident occurred near the water treatment plant, a critical access and exit point for the capital of Gran Canaria. The Emergency and Security Coordinating Center (CECOES 112) of the Government of the Canary Islands received the alert at 00:57 AM, with multiple callers reporting a vehicle rollover on the highway.
Following the alert, 112 immediately activated an extensive emergency operation to manage the incident and ensure safety in the area. Personnel from the Canarian Emergency Service (SUC), firefighters from the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Fire, Rescue, and Extinction Service, Civil Guard agents, and road maintenance staff were dispatched to the scene.
The driver, a 24-year-old man, presented with severe polytrauma, according to the initial assessment by SUC medical personnel. It was necessary to mobilize a medicalized ambulance and a basic life support ambulance for his care.
Before the arrival of emergency services, other citizens had already managed to free the occupant from the vehicle. This swift intervention allowed medical personnel to begin immediate assistance to the injured individual. The man was stabilized in the medicalized ambulance and subsequently transferred to the Hospital Universitario Insular de Gran Canaria for specialized treatment.
The scale of the accident required a significant security deployment to secure the area and prevent further incidents. Firefighters secured the damaged vehicle, while the Civil Guard prepared the corresponding report to clarify the circumstances and regulated traffic on the highway during the assistance efforts. Additionally, road maintenance workers carried out cleaning and conditioning tasks to restore normal traffic flow.
