The Gran Canarian capital experienced a day of heavy traffic this Tuesday, worsened by the closure of the Guiniguada viaduct, carried out by the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, and a multi-vehicle accident near Jinámar heading north.
The access to the Julio Luengo tunnel and the GC-1 towards the capital have become critical points, adding to the traffic jams already experienced on Monday. The spokesperson for the PP in the City Council, Jimena Delgado, has denounced the lack of coordination between the City Council and the Cabildo, calling the situation a "planning disaster".
Delgado criticized that the diversion of approximately 130,000 daily vehicles towards the Avenida Marítima and the Julio Luengo tunnels is being managed with an "absolutely insufficient" deployment of local police and mobility agents. "The result was predictable and we are suffering it," she stated, pointing to kilometers of traffic jams and a total collapse of access routes.
The works, which involve waterproofing the viaduct's decks, are expected to last until the end of the month. This intervention, considered "essential" for the infrastructure's preservation, affects traffic heading towards Siete Palmas, Tamaraceite, and the north of the island.
