The theatrical project 'In the Eye of the Whale', a production loosely inspired by Moby Dick, premieres in Gran Canaria. Born in the penitentiary center of Ariano Irpino (Italy) through a creative process with incarcerated individuals led by Enzo Mirone, the project has been developed in various Italian prisons and theaters.
The arrival of this piece on the island holds special symbolism, connecting with Canarias's cinematic memory, as the first Hollywood film about Moby Dick was shot in Las Canteras and El Confital in 1954. The initiative is a collaboration between Mirone and the Asociación Sociocultural Travesía, a reference entity for prison theater on the island.
The work aims to advocate for the transformative power of theater, connecting territories, stories, and bodies. It will be presented at the Plaza de Canarias (Trasera de Parque Santa Catalina) on Thursday, September 24th, from 9:00 PM to 10:00 PM.
The Plaza de Canarias, located in the central area of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria between the El Muelle shopping center and Mesa y López avenue, has hosted various events and festivities. Beneath the plaza lies 'El intercambiador', a bus station.
