The renovation works of Infecar, the fairgrounds of Gran Canaria, have begun with an investment of 46.2 million euros and will extend until September 2028, aiming to position the island as a reference destination.

The renovation works of the Infecar fairgrounds in Gran Canaria commenced on September 11 with demolition and dismantling activities, and will continue until September 2028. The project, awarded to the UTE Cobra-Construplan for 46.2 million euros, aims to create a modern and versatile space for hosting major events.
The president of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, Antonio Morales, visited the works, emphasizing that the project will boost economic dynamism and transform Infecar into a benchmark venue for fairs in the Canary Islands, featuring an iconic and sustainable architectural design.
The renovation seeks to increase the venue's capacity, establish it as an architectural icon, and improve its integration with the La Feria neighborhood. The project, with a two-year execution period, includes demolition, foundations, structures, flooring, roofing, and facade phases, with structural completion in May 2028 and full project completion in September 2028.
The new pavilion, spanning 9,490 square meters, will feature a main space of 7,500 square meters with a capacity for over 3,500 people. It can be divided into four sub-pavilions and will include lobbies, complementary use buildings, dining areas, multipurpose rooms, a press room, and work areas.
The exterior design incorporates a glazed facade with terraces and a finish of rhomboid-trapezoidal shapes made from recycled aluminum, providing thermal and acoustic insulation. The roof will integrate photovoltaic panels with a capacity of 577.92 kWh, capable of generating over 900,000 kWh annually, along with three 455 kWh battery modules, aiming for a zero-emission building and achieving BREEAM certification at an exceptional level.
This initiative addresses the need to enhance the MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) sector, which generates over 2,800 jobs in the Canary Islands, and will position the island as a leading destination for fairs and congresses. Infecar concluded 2025 with record activity, hosting 181 events and 328,725 attendees, and activity in 2026 has remained consistent despite the commencement of works.
