Union Deportiva Las Palmas has announced the passing of José Luis Ulacia Idiaquez, a former goalkeeper for the club and a prominent figure during one of the team's most memorable periods.

Born in Motrico, Gipuzkoa, on October 16, 1938, Ulacia was a cornerstone in UD Las Palmas' goal for 13 seasons, between 1958 and 1971. Throughout his career, he played over 160 official matches, significantly contributing to the team's consolidation in Spanish football's elite.
The goalkeeper was a fundamental part of the squad that achieved promotion to the First Division in the 1963-64 season. His presence was key in subsequent campaigns, including 1966-67, when the yellow team secured its place in the top flight.
Ulacia was part of a generation of players who marked a golden age for UD Las Palmas, reaching historical milestones such as their best-ever finish in the First Division and the league runner-up title in the 1968-69 season.

The club has extended its condolences to José Luis Ulacia's family and friends.

In tribute to his career, a minute of silence will be observed this Sunday before the match between UD Las Palmas and Real Zaragoza.
