The Canary Basic Library enriches its catalog with the inclusion of a volume dedicated to writer Josefina Pla, born on Lobos Island, highlighting her literary legacy and connection to Fuerteventura.

This new volume, number 76 in the collection, features a critical study by Ángeles Mateo and compiles 31 short stories by Pla, written over four decades. These narratives give a central role to Paraguayan women and celebrate the richness of Paraguay's popular speech.
The publication is complemented by a preliminary text, a detailed chronology of the author's life, and a glossary of terms in Guaraní and Yopará, a linguistic variety resulting from the fusion of Spanish and Guaraní. Despite having spent most of her life in Paraguay, Josefina Pla always considered herself a “majorera” (from Fuerteventura).
In addition to Pla's work, the Canary Basic Library adds two other titles to its catalog: La hora silente, by Hilda Zudán, and De un sabio antológico, by Juan José Delgado. With these additions, the collection reaches numbers 74, 75, and 76.
The official presentation of the volume dedicated to Josefina Pla will take place on Saturday, April 18, at 12:00 PM, at the Telde Book Fair. The event will be led by Victoriano Santana Sanjurjo, director of the Canary Basic Library, and philologist José Miguel Perera, with free admission until full capacity. Subsequent presentations will be held on May 8 at the Lanzarote Book Fair and on May 9 at the Santa Lucía de Tirajana Book Fair.
Founded in 1988, the Canary Basic Library brings together fundamental voices and works of the archipelago's literature. In its current phase, the collection continues to expand with a renewed design and a reinforced focus on anthologies, which include preliminary studies, bibliographies, and chronologies prepared by specialists. In parallel, the Government of the Canary Islands promotes the digital dissemination of the collection through its website and the bibliotecadecanarias.org platform, aiming to broaden public access to Canarian literature and maintain a continuous publication rhythm.
