The Melenara beach library has opened its summer season, offering a space for reading, workshops, and family activities from Monday to Friday, 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM.

The 'biblioplaya' of Melenara has kicked off a new summer season, presenting a renewed offering that includes more bibliographic resources, new titles, and an expanded space. The goal is to bring reading closer to residents, families, and visitors during the summer months.
The service will be operational from Monday to Friday, between 10:00 AM and 8:00 PM. Users can enjoy free book lending, access to daily newspapers, internet connection, and various reading areas. Additionally, an activity schedule aimed at children and families has been planned.
One of this year's novelties is the expansion of the bibliographic collection, made possible by the collaboration of local bookstores that have donated copies. This initiative strengthens the connection between culture, the municipality's commerce, and the community.
The inaugural program included a 'fiesta de la lectura' (reading festival), an event that highlights the annual work of the Municipal Libraries to promote the reading habit. Reading clubs and the library's oral narration workshop participated in this activity, offering a storytelling session.
This summer, the 'biblioplaya' also hosts an environmental education initiative promoted by the Beaches department. This workshop will teach young people the meaning of blue flags and the importance of keeping beaches clean and sustainable. Participants will create their own flags as a symbol of commitment to the coastline.
The presentation event was attended by the mayor of Telde, Juan Antonio Peña; the Councilor for Culture, Juan Martel; the Councilor for Beaches, María Calderín; Gestel's manager, Jesús Suárez; and the Director of Municipal Libraries, Cathy Fleitas.
Throughout July, special activities will be held every Friday at 6:00 PM. The program includes storytelling on July 3rd with Antonio López, a humor and fantasy show on July 10th with El Show de Tadeo by Ocho Pies, an illustration workshop on July 17th with Javi Afonso, a creative workshop on July 24th with María Buenadicha, and a magic show on July 31st by Animaventura.
Mayor Juan Antonio Peña highlighted that the 'biblioplaya' embodies the essence of the summer desired for Telde, a summer that combines culture, family, and learning. He emphasized that a book can accompany us anywhere, even by the sea, turning reading into an accessible leisure experience.
For his part, Councilor for Culture, Juan Martel, thanked the staff of Municipal Libraries, Gestel, and all those involved. He noted that the 'biblioplaya' has become a consolidated summer initiative in Telde that grows and renews itself, enabling children, young people, and adults to experience reading in a close, fun, and shared way.
