The Department of Planning, Urban Development, and Housing will carry out the demolition of the existing building on the site where the new infrastructure will be located, with works to be executed by Sagulpa. This initial intervention aims to prepare the space to expand parking capacity and promote mobility in the area, near the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria's Rectorate.
To ensure safety during the demolition work, estimated to last a maximum of one week, the current car park will be vacated starting next Thursday, November 5th. Once completed, the space will be available again as a car park until construction begins.
During the intervention, protective measures will be implemented to preserve the asphalt pavement and minimize inconvenience to regular car park users.
The project includes a modular, demountable, and reusable car park with a capacity for 215 spaces, distributed across the ground floor and two upper levels. It will feature adapted spaces for people with reduced mobility and areas for electric vehicle charging. The roof will house photovoltaic panels, aligning with the municipal commitment to energy efficiency.
The future facility is envisioned as a deterrent and intermodal mobility infrastructure, facilitating the combination of private vehicles with public transport and, in the future, the cycle network, given its proximity to Guaguas Municipales connections in the Primero de Mayo area.
The action also aims to reduce traffic pressure on Vegueta and Triana and is part of the vision for more accessible, connected, and sustainable mobility for Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, supporting the urban transformation planned within the Guiniguada area.
