The development works for the San Gregorio expansion in the Arauz urbanization, in Telde, initiated last year after 25 years of stagnation, are progressing well. However, the removal of a large population of the Gran Canaria giant lizard (Gallotia stehlini) from a wall on Las Tosquillas street has caused a new delay in the delivery of works that were expected by September.
The intervention, covering 111,000 square meters, includes the provision of all necessary urban services such as paving, sidewalks, sewage and rainwater networks, water supply, telecommunications, and parking. The construction of at least 950 homes and the creation of approximately 300 parking spaces are planned.
Separately, during the Telde City Council Plenary session, non-attached councilor Héctor Suárez questioned the local government regarding the private professional activity of architect and councilor Iván Sánchez, suggesting a potential conflict of interest. Sánchez rejected the insinuations, stating he has had a report from the general secretary since May 2023 validating his private professional practice.
Furthermore, the Plenary approved two credit modifications, one of which is for 36,000 euros allocated to the drafting of the project for the future square dedicated to Alfredo Kraus in San Juan.
