Residents in the Mesa y López area of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria have expressed their frustration with the ongoing MetroGuagua construction works, collecting nearly 5,000 signatures to halt the project.

Nearly 5,000 residents of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria have signed a petition on the `movilidadquefunciona.com` website to stop the current MetroGuagua project. Representatives from Coalición Canaria, present on José Mesa y López avenue, continue to gather support and listen to citizens' complaints about this public transport system.
Residents criticize the City Council for "throwing money down the drain" instead of investing in improving existing bus lines or basic services like cleaning. They point out that "thousands of euros" are being "squandered" on the MetroGuagua, and after a decade, they have only seen "construction and more construction," leaving the city "upside down." They add that "more shaded areas, more walking spaces, sidewalk renovations, and more benches" are needed, investments they consider more crucial than the transport project.
Coalición Canaria maintains that the execution of the BRT project by the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria City Council "is not meeting the objectives for which it was designed." They argue that "a decade of works with no results to date" demonstrates the municipal government's "failure."
The nationalist party stresses that "the city needs improvements in its public transport, improvements that will certainly not come with the MetroGuagua." Therefore, they advocate for "self-criticism, stopping, and rethinking what to do."
Coalición Canaria encourages capital residents to express their "disagreement with the management of the municipal government group" and announces that next Saturday, June 20, they will be collecting signatures at the Mercado Central.
