Police commanders traveled from Madrid to Gran Canaria to coordinate the “complex” security arrangements. On the first day, they held a working meeting at the Superior Police Headquarters and visited the CEMAN room, which will serve as the coordination center for deployed units.
Subsequently, a sectoral meeting focused on the organization of the papal visit took place, followed by technical visits to strategic locations in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. These included the Bishopric, the Cathedral of Santa Ana, and the Estadio de Gran Canaria, which is expected to be one of the main venues for the events.
Logistical areas, such as the port and other spaces designated to support the media participating in the security operation, were also analyzed. On the second day, institutional meetings continued at the Government Delegation in the Canary Islands, in the capital of Gran Canaria, with various police officials participating to advance planning and coordination.
The schedule of meetings then moved to the island of Tenerife, where further coordination meetings were held at police facilities and the Government Subdelegation. In Santa Cruz de Tenerife, technical visits were conducted at the port to study routes, access points, public gathering areas, and planned itineraries.
The National Police emphasized that these actions are part of the advanced planning phase for the security operation. This will involve extensive participation from various units of the police force to ensure the smooth execution of the events and the safety of all attendees at an internationally significant occasion.
