The island institution organized an event at CEIP Arucas to commemorate International Forest Firefighter Day, highlighting the importance of raising awareness among young people. During the day, various prevention and outreach workshops were conducted, allowing students to learn firsthand about the equipment and vehicles used by fire units.
The Presa 2026 Awards were presented to a forest firefighter from the Presa Team, who has been with the heliborne unit since 2002; to a telecommunications technician from the Insular Operational Coordination Center (Cecopin); to a maintenance technician from Sky Helicópteros; to an environmental agent from the Cabildo; and to a territorial delegate from the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) in Canarias. All were recognized for their contributions to fighting forest fires on the island.
“"We have been celebrating this day for several years in schools across the island, whether in the north, the capital, or the south, to convey everything that is done by the Cabildo's emergency service to the students."
The island's top official emphasized concern about the impact of climate change, noting that "it will continue to affect us very seriously with forest fires, intense rainfall, and rising sea levels," underscoring the relevance of these professionals' work.
