The Santa Brígida City Council has officially established the Child and Adolescent Participation Body (OPIA), a new platform that will allow 42 minors from the municipality to directly convey their ideas and needs to the local administration.

The constitution of the OPIA, held on the afternoon of April 10, marks a significant step in the municipal strategy to promote citizen participation among children and adolescents. This body, driven by the Department of Social Services, aims to integrate the voices of young people into the development of Santa Brígida, aligning with the goal of achieving “Child-Friendly City” recognition from UNICEF.

"We want Santa Brígida to be a place where childhood and adolescence truly matter. Listening to their voices and transforming them into concrete improvements is our commitment."

Carlos Carrión · Councillor
The OPIA creation process took place in the municipality's schools, with the support of the Embárriate project, promoted by the Mojo de Caña Association. During this phase, young people from the VOPIA of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, a similar established body, shared their experiences and the impact of their proposals on improving their city, serving as an inspiration for the new participants.
The technical session, coordinated by Paula Santana, municipal technician and head of the OPIA, included participatory dynamics such as “Let's Solve the Childhood Map” and the “Wishes Clothesline,” where minors expressed their aspirations for the municipality. The event concluded with the reading of the oath of commitment, formalizing the work of the new representatives for the well-being of their peers.
