The municipality of Santa Brígida successfully hosted the first 'Cocinillas' culinary competition, which transformed its market into a vibrant gastronomic space, despite the rain, highlighting the value of local produce and the participants' creativity.

The initiative, promoted by the Santa Brígida City Council and organized by Alba Bernal, exceeded expectations, bringing together producers, chefs, and the public in a shared experience. The event was not just a competition, but a celebration of the market and its products, fostering the connection between gastronomy and the territory.
The competition format was innovative, starting with a preliminary selection that led to six semifinalists on the final day of Sunday, April 12. Each presented a cold dish, prepared in advance, which had to be plated and defended live before the jury and the public, showcasing diverse interpretations of local cuisine.
Among the semifinalists, Stefano Ambrosi stood out with 'Verde y agua', Amira Santana with 'Merienda de primavera', Carmen Roda with 'Tocino de cielo', Germán Domínguez with 'Raíz y mar', Kevin Betancor with his 'Tartar isleño', and Patricia da Mata with an 'Ensalada coleslaw de mi amiga Michelle'. After a close deliberation, Stefano, Carmen, and Germán advanced to the final.
The final phase tested the improvisation and skill of the chefs, who received a surprise box with fresh produce from the Santa Brígida Municipal Market. With a budget of 20 euros and only 10 minutes to buy additional ingredients, they had to prepare four servings live. Presenter Romina Vives, from Vives Impro, kept the event lively, while chef José Luis Espino, from catering Alma, guided the participants.
Third place went to Carmen Roda with her 'Plato de Pastores', a proposal that honored traditional cuisine. Stefano Ambrosi secured second place with his 'Sorpresa Ahumada', a contemporary creation that balanced technique and product. The grand winner was Germán Domínguez, whose 'Buen Rollito', a Vietnamese roll with market vegetables and a fig jam emulsion sauce, won over the jury with its concept and execution.
The jury, composed of Miguel Herrera, Beatriz Vega, and the article's author, highlighted the quality of the proposals. Mayor José Armengol and the Councilor for Tourism and Commerce, Carmen Juez, emphasized how Santa Brígida cooks itself through its local ingredients. The success of the competition has guaranteed a second edition, consolidating this event as a key date for the island's gastronomy.
