The Santa Brígida City Council has unanimously approved the granting of Honors and Distinctions for the year 2026 to seven personalities distinguished for their connection to the municipality. The decision, made in an extraordinary session held this Wednesday, June 10, aims to reward human excellence, altruistic sacrifice, and life trajectories in service to the residents.
In this edition, Antonio Santana Saavedra, Ana María Luisa Pérez Doreste, Lorenzo Santana Santana, and posthumously, Julio Alemán Alvarado, have been named Favorite Sons of the Villa. Furthermore, the title of Adopted Daughters and Sons has been awarded to Juan Ramón Betancor Sosa, María Isabel Díaz Díaz, and Vito Ondo Motogo Mangue.
Antonio Santana Saavedra is recognized for his human quality and sacrifice for youth through sports, as well as his commitment to social development in the San José de las Vegas neighborhood. Ana María Luisa Pérez Doreste is honored for her personal and professional career and her commitment to solidarity, education, and Human Rights.
Lorenzo Santana Santana receives the distinction for his public service career, dedication to the social and cultural life of the Villa, and preservation of popular traditions. Posthumously, Julio Alemán Alvarado is recognized for his work in public administration, as an Inspector of Social Security and City Councilor, promoting the Municipal Market in 1986.
Regarding the Adopted Children, Juan Ramón Betancor Sosa is distinguished for his exemplary medical dedication, contribution to health innovation, and community participation. María Isabel Díaz Díaz is honored for her long dedication to Nursing, strong vocation of service, contribution to community health, teaching and research, and especially her human quality and empathy in primary care.
Finally, Vito Ondo Motogo Mangue is recognized for his human quality, closeness, and involvement as a community builder through example, leaving a profound human and social mark on the Villa.
The formal presentation of these distinctions will take place at a public ceremony this Friday, June 12, at 7:00 PM, in the Villa's Cultural Center, as part of the San Antonio de Padua Festivities 2026.
