Unions have gathered at the Salinetas industrial park in Telde following the death of a worker on August 5th, demanding a review of safety protocols and increased resources for the Labor Inspectorate.

Union associations gathered this Thursday at the Salinetas industrial park in Telde, where an accident occurred on August 5th, resulting in the death of one worker and injuries to two others. The organizations have called for a review of safety protocols, under the slogan “Not one more death,” as the incident's 15-day mark is reached.
The unions are requesting to know if the workers had all legally required safety equipment at the time of the explosion and for the causes of the accident to be clarified. They criticize the lack of information regarding the incident's causes, stating that silence does not absolve responsibility in the face of frequent workplace fatalities.

"We don't accept silence under the argument that we must wait for investigations to conclude. Always silence and never responsibility for what happened. And this with so many, so many deaths of colleagues, every year, during their working hours."

Furthermore, the union organizations, including CCOO, UGT, CNT, Cobas, CUO, HOAC, MTC, and SGU, have expressed their desire to know why it took an hour to rescue two of the injured workers, one of whom remains hospitalized. They emphasize that the involved companies, DISA and Nervion Industries, must provide public explanations regarding the fatal accident's causes and the decision not to suspend work under the aforementioned adverse conditions.
Finally, they demand greater involvement from employers in occupational risk prevention and from the administration, a larger allocation for the Labor Inspectorate, both in personnel and sufficient resources, to address companies with high-risk jobs. The National Police has launched an investigation into the incident, which occurred during maintenance tasks on a fuel tank.
