The municipality of Telde will once again merge sport and solidarity with the 17th Salinetas Open Water Swim 2026 “Dolores Álvarez”. This sporting event, taking place on Sunday, September 6, will include a collection of non-perishable food items to support the most vulnerable families in the area.
The donated products will be delivered to the parishes of Santo Cura de Ars and San Venancio y Santa María de Nazaret, which will manage their distribution through the San Venancio Food Bank. This social initiative is promoted by the Department of Physical Activity and Sports of the Telde City Council, led by Cristhian Santana Caballero, and organized in collaboration with the Club Costa Este.
The event, which is free and charitable, will start at 10:30 AM with a 1,500-meter open water course. The start will be from Melenara beach, with the finish line at Salinetas beach, passing through Taliarte. Each participant must contribute one kilogram of non-perishable food when collecting their race number/chip and cap, on the day of the event, between 8:30 AM and 10:00 AM.
Cristhian Santana highlighted that the swim "not only promotes sports practice in a privileged environment like our coastline, but also reinforces fundamental values such as solidarity and social commitment." He invited citizens to participate and contribute to this cause. He added that "recovering and consolidating this event after years without being held demonstrates this government's commitment to sports and initiatives that generate social cohesion".
Registrations, which are limited, are progressing well and will remain open until September 4 or until the capacity is reached. They can be completed through the website deportes.telde.es. One registration per person is allowed.
In the competitive aspect, trophies will be awarded to the top three finishers in the overall male and female categories. All participants who complete the swim will receive a commemorative finisher's gift.
The organization will have a comprehensive safety plan, including course marking, chip timing, sea assistance, and civil liability and accident insurance. The need for adequate physical preparation for open water swimming is reminded.
