Telde, September 9, 2026. The municipality of Telde will host an exhibition dedicated to the traditional clothing of Gran Canaria during the 18th and 19th centuries. The initiative, organized by the Asociación Cultural Entre Amigos, will be complemented by the III Tamaima Festival, promoted by the Asociación Cultural Tamaima. Both events will take place at the Jinámar Civic Center, located on Lomo Las Brujas street.
The exhibition's inauguration is scheduled for September 26th at 7:00 PM. The exhibition aims to bring to the public knowledge, dissemination, and appreciation of the cultural heritage associated with traditional Canarian clothing.
The exhibition will also feature a collection of garments made in the 1990s as part of the Urban de Jinámar program. These pieces were created by artisans Manuel Acosta and Tomás Hernández Negrín, known for their study and promotion of traditional Canarian attire. A tribute to their cultural contributions will be held at a later date.
The opening day will conclude with the III Tamaima Festival, featuring participants such as the Asociación Cultural Entre Amigos, Tamaima, La Pioná de Fuerteventura, and Cono Sur Ahorén. The exhibition will be open to the public at the Jinámar Civic Center until October 10th. Visiting hours are from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, with afternoon visits available by appointment. Admission is free.
The project, driven by the Asociación Cultural Entre Amigos, aims to contribute to the research, conservation, and dissemination of traditional Canarian culture, with a particular focus on clothing as material and intangible heritage. The exhibition is the result of documentation and research efforts and has toured various municipalities of Gran Canaria.
The activity is sponsored by the Cabildo de Gran Canaria and the FEDAC, and seeks to bring the cultural heritage and traditions that define the identity of Gran Canaria closer to the public.
