Telde enhances its support for people with disabilities with the opening of a new day center in La Pardilla, providing 30 places for individuals over 21, with services commencing on April 17.
After seven years of closure, a municipal building in the La Pardilla neighborhood of Telde is reopening with a clear purpose: to care for and assist the municipality's residents. This initiative marks a significant step for Telde in strengthening disability care, thanks to the launch of a new day center managed by San Juan de Dios. The space, which had been closed since 2019, is now being transformed into an essential and much-needed resource for the community.
The new facility will join the island's network of dependency care services and will offer 30 places for people with disabilities who require support in their daily lives. The center is scheduled to begin receiving its first users on April 17.
The facility and its team of professionals will attend to thirty users over 21 years old, from Monday to Friday, between 8:30 AM and 5:00 PM. The service will also include adapted transport to facilitate access. The intervention will be carried out through a program of therapeutic activities, combined with an open program integrated into the community. This will allow users to participate in outings to parks and cafes, as well as gym and swimming pool activities, fostering not only their physical and emotional well-being but also their social inclusion and personal autonomy.
Care will be adapted to the specific needs of each person, aiming to enhance their social and cognitive skills, and reinforce basic daily living aspects such as dressing, personal hygiene, and eating. All efforts are directed towards promoting the maximum possible autonomy for users. The work will be approached from both individual and group perspectives, supported by a multidisciplinary team comprising psychology, occupational therapy, and social integration professionals, ensuring specialized and personalized care.

"The opening of this resource in Telde represents another step in the island's planning to meet the socio-health demand linked to disability, expanding the network of places and bringing services closer to citizens."
Funding for this service is provided by the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, with an investment of 715,000 euros planned for 2026, which amounts to a cost of 96.12 euros per place per day. The president of the island executive, Antonio Morales, highlighted the importance of this opening. Meanwhile, the Councilor for Social Policy and Accessibility, Isabel Mena, emphasized that this center “allows us to continue advancing in the commitment to generate opportunities for people with disabilities when they finish their educational stage, guaranteeing resources adapted to their needs.”

"The launch of this space means recovering a public property to put it at the service of people and contribute to the well-being of the municipality and its neighborhoods."
The mayor of Telde, Juan Antonio Peña, stated that the initiative not only benefits users but also “will generate employment and help boost activity in the area, especially in the La Pardilla neighborhood.” The managing director of San Juan de Dios, Lorenzo Esma, added that “from San Juan de Dios, we bring resources closer to people, caring for users with disabilities and those needing third-person support closer to their homes, thus making life easier for their families.” Esma also mentioned the creation of 75 places in the last two years for this group, 45 at the Ciudad San Juan de Dios in El Lasso and the 30 in La Pardilla.
