The opposition in the Telde City Council has requested prudence regarding the petition of José Luis Mena, former head of Urban Planning, to rejoin the administration after his disqualification.

Opposition parties in the Telde City Council have urged 'caution' concerning the request submitted by José Luis Mena, the former municipal head of Urban Planning, to rejoin the local administration over a decade after his departure. Mena was disqualified as a civil servant following his conviction in the 'caso Alisios' for document forgery, specifically for incorporating a legally flawed report with an incorrect date into an urban planning file to authorize a housing development.
The conviction by the Provincial Court in 2014 sentenced Mena to three and a half years in prison and disqualification. Subsequently, in April 2015, the City Council itself issued a decree permanently barring him from holding a public employee position in the city.
The PSOE spokesperson, Alejandro Ramos, stated he would await consultation of the files before commenting, while the spokesperson for Nueva Canarias, José Luis Macías, indicated his party would not oppose Mena's rights but would conduct a political assessment of the governing group's decision. Macías questioned whether 'the same government that spearheaded the Faycán case, formed by Ciuca and PP, can now reincorporate a convicted individual into the City Council'.
From Ciuca, the Human Resources councilor, Carmen Batista, confirmed Mena's request, noting that the department is studying the feasibility of the application, describing it as a 'very complicated' matter due to existing judicial sentences.
The PP spokesperson in Telde, María Calderín, mentioned learning about the news through the media and has not yet met with the mayor to discuss the issue. Sources familiar with such procedures suggest up to three avenues could facilitate Mena's return, including his appointment as a trusted position or a modification to the nature of the Urban Planning role.
